Barstool Transformation

As long as I can remember, these barstools were at my aunt and uncles condo in Lake Tahoe. This summer she replaced the barstools and handed them down to my other aunt and uncle. With all four stools still in great condition, my aunt asked me to white distress them. Since the stools were in great condition, my job was easy!

Here are the before pictures.

Each stool took almost a can of Rustoleum Flat White spray paint. Once the stools dried overnight, I began distressing.

Being my current OBSESSION is all things white and grey, I am pleased with the final product.

Jocko James 4 Months Old

Jocko is 4 months old and growing fast! I am still amazed how time flies, but loving every moment watching this handsome boy get bigger, more alert and develop his own personality. At the 4 month check up he weighed 14 1bs and still in the 25th percentile for weight and 5th percentile for  height. He is in 3-6 months in clothes (quickly moving in 6 months) and wearing size 2 diapers. Jocko is not a fan of bath time, but Giada loves having someone else in the tub with her! His schedule is the same and he goes to bed at 8:00 and sleeps till 7 AM. Jocko is rolling over and becoming a chatter box. He loves to be on the ground watching his sister play or sitting on the couch looking around. Jocko is a lover and one easy going boy!

We love you handsome boy!

Toy Chest to Printer Box

Several months back, My mother-in-law gave me an old toy chest… At first sight I thought of re-doing it for Giada. However, her room quickly filled up and there was not a place for the toy chest. Months later, I began the process of transforming our office/guest room and realized I needed a place to hide the printer. Not only was the toy chest the perfect size, I had a vision for changing it into a printer box.

Here are the before pictures

After cutting down the legs and removing the top, my vision was in the works!

I spray painted the box white and let dry overnight.

After some elbow grease and a light coat of paint to give it the perfect distressed look, the box was ready for the office. I added new hinges ans handle to the door and placed it in the office.

Happy Fall Ya'll - Front Porch Decorating Ideas

The front porch is one of the first impressions people have when visiting your home... Now that September has arrived, it is time to start decorating. We have a courtyard just waiting for some pampering and with the help of these fall ideas, I can't wait to begin. There is something about corn stalks, pumpkins, rustic decor and fall colors that gets my creative juices going. I would love to incorporate all ten ideas!

1. The colorful flowers in the rustic pots us a great way to add some life to the front porch.

4. If you have visited our house, you know we have milk can bar stools that have been passed down from Anthony's parents. Now it is time to invest in some of my own and add them to the front porch.

Keeping the Tradition

Tradition in my family runs deep and they're some of my greatest memories growing up. The stories of all our family get together's continue to  live on even after we've lost some very special people. September 1st means dove hunting and our traditional dove dinner with a recipe that has passed on from generation to generation. Since we just celebrated this occasion, I began reflecting on some other family traditions that I cherish most.   With our fast paced lives and divorced families, family traditions can get lost.  Society seems to have forgotten that the integrity of the family creates strength and bonding to succeed in life. Call me old-fashioned, but I can't imagine not celebrating with family. With all of this being said, here are my top 10 family traditions.

1. Chinese Christmas

Years ago my Uncle Jim and Aunt Carole would host what we called "Chinese Christmas" which was always the  Saturday before Christmas. Keep in mind we're Italian and this is not the  typical Chinese Christmas celebration.  We get Chinese take-out! Even though my Uncle Jim is no longer with us, we continue to alternate years between our Bay area cousins and the Modesto cousins on hosting this long lasting tradition of getting our family and extended families together.

2. Dove Dinner

Dove season opened on September 1st and that means we had our traditional dove dinner. Growing up I can remember waking up before the sun rose, getting in the car and riding out to Zia's house. Zia would have donuts and hot chocolate ready for us when we arrived. Shortly thereafter, we would head out for the morning hunt. After reaching our limit ( hoping we would reach our limit as this was dinner!) we would go back to Zia's for lunch and a nap. Around 3 o'clock we would load up in the cars and head out for the evening hunt. After the last dove was plucked and cleaned, we enjoyed our fruits of the day.  Thanks to Zia for all the years of watching her prep dinner, I'm fortunate to now have the opportunity to pass it on to our children.

3. Pismo Beach at Thanksgiving

This is a tradition I married into but now look forward to spending the weekend after Thanksgiving in Pismo. Not only do we get together with Anthony's family, but we camp out on the beach and enjoy the beautiful weather. This year the kids get to spend their first weekend in Pismo and I can't wait to see Giada's huge smile on her face while riding a quad.

4. Candle Lighting on Christmas Day

My grandparents started a tradition of lighting a candle for every person we have lost in our family and saying a little something about them before Christmas dinner. As our family has grown, candles have been added to the table but it's just a reminder of how important it is to keep the ones that we've lost in our prayers and thoughts through our daily lives.

5. Christmas Caroling

I love all things about the Christmas season but I especially look forward to Christmas caroling at Zia and Uncle Bill's house. The carolers started with their immediate family and have grown to over 50 people. It's fun to see all the generations and the tradition the carolers have kept over the years.

6. Enchiladas on Christmas Eve.

Coming from an Italian family, enchiladas may seem like an odd meal for Christmas Eve… Not for us! My grandpa Pecchenino (great grandpa) started this tradition and we've carried it on ever since. It started with my Noni helping grandpa, then Noni to Zia then my Dad started helping Zia to my mom. Though I'm not with my family on Christmas Eve my family has continued making Grandpa's enchiladas.

7. Horse Race at Oakdale Country Club.

This is a new tradition my dad and I started doing together five years ago at Oakdale Country Club Friday Night Lights annual horse race. When the tournament started five years ago I was the only girl in the horse race; since then,  several more ladies have joined the competition. I have participated in this horse race while pregnant with both kids and I believe those were the times we played the best. It looks like I may have to continue to have children as we were not as successful this past Friday. Part of the fun this year was watching Giada run around on the golf course which brought back memories of me growing up out there.

8. Opening Stockings Christmas Morning

I may be turning the big 3-0 this year but that doesn't mean I can't open stockings on Christmas morning. Back when it was just Giano, Giovanna and myself, Santa would wrap each individual gift in our stocking and we would start with the oldest to the youngest and alternate opening gifts. This would take forever but we couldn't imagine doing it any other way. Once we finished with our stockings, Mom and Dad would have to do the exact same thing. Well...there's not just the five of us anymore and we're still doing the same thing. Needless to say, opening Christmas stockings in the morning is a process, but the tradition will continue.  Now, we get to enjoy it with Anthony's famous bloody Mary's and Mom has her Mimosa.

9. Dinner with Noni and Nono

Every Sunday my Noni and Nono would come over for dinner. It didn't matter what was going on that day, we knew between five and six o'clock we would pick them up at their house and bring them over for dinner.  My mom would have a drink ready for Nono and Noni's water would be sitting next to her chair.  Usually by the end of the dinner, Nono would make some smart remark that Noni would laugh so hard she'd starting crying.  Every once in awhile, Noni would crack herself up(as well as us) and start laughing so hard that the rest of couldn't help ourselves.  After Nono passed away a couple years ago, Noni continued the tradition of coming over for Sunday dinner.   Noni would always show up in her Sunday best and us in our casual low keyed attire. Now that we've lost the both of them those memories and laughs we had at the dinner table are priceless.

10. Lake Tahoe

I don't think there's a summer I've missed going to Lake Tahoe. This tradition started when I wasn't even born and my dad's family would go up together when they were kids. We've been fortunate that my Zia has let us stay at her condo (and Uncle Bill's) for as long as I can remember.  Some of my best memories are days on the beach just playing in the sand and riding the waves on the boogie board and in evening playing cards and going down to the dock with blankets to watch the stars. When we were teenagers we got to bring a friend with us for the week. Good memories.   As we got older, the memories of our evenings on the beach having appetizers and drinks and watching the sunset.   As we've all  grown up and started our own families it's harder to get everyone to Tahoe at the same time, but we've continued to try to go a few days every summer. This year Giada enjoyed all the things I did when I was younger. Can't wait till next year to see both Giada and Jocko on the beach.

Thank you to all of my family that started these traditions.  You can count on the next generation to carry them on to our families and also create a few of our own.

Farmhouse Friday: Favorite Looks

After being away for the past three days in Newport for back to school meetings, it is time to finish up my home office and gear up for the start of school. As much as I love the galvanized desk I built this summer, the lack of storage is tricky. With that being said, I have researched several DIY ideas for the office. In the next week I will be building and organizing several items for the office.

For this Farmhouse Friday, I would like to share some blogs and ideas I will be using for my work space.

1. Hidden Printer Space

One of the biggest problems with my setup is a location for the printer. Not only do I not want to look at a printer in the office, I lack an area to place the printer. With this great storage idea I will add more decor to the room and hide the printer.

2. Hanging Baskets

3. Trash Can

This seems like a logical addition to the office, but something I failed to add in the beginning of my office transformation.

Wow! What a week! I am beyond excited to say Happy Friday! Life sure happened this week and it is time for the weekend! Heaven received a new angel early Wednesday morning and my family said goodbye to one of the most amazing, selfless, stylish, loving grandmas a girl could ask for!

As I embraced it being Friday and headed north to celebrate Central Catholic's 50th Anniversary and Grand Opening of the Mark Gallo Fitness Center; I am happy to once again feature TSK Design Works for Farmhouse Friday!

TSK Design offers the perfect farmhouse signs for your farmhouse look. I have their "Farmers Market" sign in my kitchen and LOVE it! Not only are their signs unique, they offer custom wording and sizes to fit your home. Below you will find their farmers market sign and some of the other products they offer.

Jocko James 3 Months

Jocko turned three months old on August 2nd. It's hard to believe three months have gone by and how much he has changed! He now eats at 7:00, 10:15, 1:30, 4:45 and 8:00 - then straight to bed. He's wearing 3 to 6 month clothes and still in size 1 diapers. Just recently he started to roll from his back to his stomach and lifts his head while laying on his stomach. Jocko is very intrigued by his energetic sister and loves to watch her run around the house. He is an easy-going baby, quite the talker, loves to smile and enjoys snuggling with mom and dad.

Just in the last month I feel like I can finally breathe again. With Giada in bed at 8:00 and Jocko at 8:30, Anthony and I once again have evenings together.

We love you handsome boy!

Mommy Monday/Farmhouse Friday Featuring TSK Design Works

I am not sure where last week went, but time flew by and I did not post for Farmhouse Friday. Without a post on Friday, I decided to tie together Mommy Monday with Farmhouse Friday.

As a mom, I live and breath my family. Ever since we moved into our Fixer Upper, I have wanted to create a collage of our family focused around a chalkboard. With the help of TSK Design Works, I was able to create the perfect wall collage of Giada and Jocko centered around one of their chalkboard products. The chalkboard and frame added the perfect farmhouse look I envisioned.

Today I would like to introduce, TSK Design Works. TSK Design Works is an Etsy company that creates wood signs, chalkboards, large wall clocks and other home decor. I am highlighting their new chalkboard in my wall collage. In partnering with TSK Design Works, I am looking forward to featuring them for the next two Fridays and their wonderful products.

When it came to the wall collage, I spent a good hour rearranging picture frames. With a vision in mind, I knew it would take a few times before I found the perfect arrangement .

Not only was I struggling to create the perfect collage, but my helper was rearranging the frames as I put them in place.
At first I wanted to use several different colors of frames....

I quickly realized that was not the look I was going for.

And once again, Giada found the need to  un-tape the sheet as I was working.
Now I was on to a simpler look with just black picture frames.

Once I had an idea of my arrangement, I used newspaper and printing paper to map out the collage.
Almost done...

Final Product!
